Thanks Ian, this is helpful information. Although, none of them are even close to a 14mm thread. I am firmly convinced that a tapered M14x1.25 tapered plug has not been produced in a very long time and is NLA. I did find an M14 straight plug from a Nissan exhaust manifold. I will wrap a single strand of copper wire around the threads along with some Loctite 271 Red to secure if for a very long time.

BSP thread sizes are based on the bore of the pipe.

Odd that it’s a hex head, I’m sure it would have been a slotted head from the factory, and use the universal 18mm x 1mm thread?
Could the sludge trap have been modified at all in a previous life?

i had M18 X 1 plug with a inside hexagon made from M12 allen head bolts

if you have a friend with a lathe you could make your own from a M10 allenhead bolt i think
you can make it tapered with a thread file

Eldert,

Interesting thought and very creative. I don't have access to a lathe and I'm not super confident of my ability to cut a proper 1.25 thread pattern by hand. My local machine shop wants crazy money, so I inquired with a few people that offer machine shop services on Etsy...including one in Pakistan. Thank you for the suggestion.
