oil leak and fork issues

The best way I have found to pinpoint an oil leak is clean the suspect area and dust with talcom powder.
After a short time you will see the leak has wet the powder.

Forks, was there any spacers above the springs? They usually look like rough cut pieces of tube.

I will try the talc tomorrow.
Yes I fitted the spring spacer.compressors as per original. the springs really feel too soft.
