Removing Ignition Switch from Headlight Bucket

Postby gregwils » Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:58 pm

If I were moving any slower on my project it would qualify as moving backwards. Anyway, this is a '66 Monza Junior. I am trying to remove the ignition switch from the headlight bucket. There appears to be a lip on the ignition switch that is wider than the headlight bucket so it can't be pulled down into the bucket. What is the secret to pulling this thing out?

I've no clue, but maybe a couple more photos might help. Your switch is different than anything on my bikes, and it's been years since I took a switch out anyway, but maybe I'll recognize something that comes apart that may not be readily apparent.

I got it. It did screw out. I have to say, I love the simplicity of this ignition switch, however, it certainly doesn't seem suited to wet weather. The easiest way to do this would be to separate the headlight bucket in halves. Document the wiring patterns, then simply unscrew the switch body from the switch exterior brass mount (not sure what to call it). Installation is reverse.

I have two square buckets. The switch mounting hole is different. The other one is larger and round. Note that this one is smaller and has two flat surfaces. It might be the difference between a 160 and a 250.

The simplicity of everything back in the 1960s is revealed in these bikes.

Along the lines of simplicity, I also enjoy the notstalgic look at Italian industry as every manufacturer was allowed to put their logos on the components they supplied; Silentium, Veglia, Pirelli, Aprilia, Radaelli, Barruzo, Safa, Giuliari and more. For me, it adds character to our bikes.

Nowadays of course regardless of who makes the parts they can only bear the motorcycle's brand/logo.
