Spoke Thread Pitch

Postby gregwils » Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:09 pm

Can anyone tell me the correct pitch for 250 spokes? It appears to be very close to .5, but the 3.5mm x.5 die that I purchased is not correct. I did search the forum and got a lot of pitch hits, but nothing regarding spokes. Thanks.

An ordinary die will not cut a thread for spokes......they are not cut but rolled with a special tool made for the job just check out spoke thread rolling machine on the web.

Thanks George. I had read about spoke threads being rolled, but didn't realize it was the only option. I'm not certain if I should buy a tool to attempt rolling them myself or do I invest in the custom spoke length that I need. Anyone roll their own spokes at home?

Greg, luckily I have a "Cyclo" spoke thread rolling machine, so I have endlessly rolled my own and many other spokes (its a bit tedious :) ) I think you may still be able to still buy a small rolling machine, someone told me that you can get an Indian made one? I have seen them now and then on Ebay but of course when you need one............ I think it will be much more cost effective for you just to buy new spokes.
Cheers,
George
