Mark3 W / C motor / frame numbering

Postby elmoi11 » Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:27 pm

Hello everyone, I have doubts that I want to clarify, with the numbering and years of manufacture of the 350 Mark3 W / C model.
According to Ian Falcon in the book "The complete book of Ducati" page 95, they were manufactured from 1968-1970, with the engine numbers: DM350 05105-11052.

But Searching on web and at http://www.hogervorst.tech/ducati-frame ... xmain.html
I find other Mark3 350s, from later years and numbered over 11052.

Does anyone know for how many years this model was manufactured and also the beginning and end of the motor / frame numbering for the Mark 3 W / C.

Thank you and greetings.

dating your bike is easy . take out the front wheel and look at the lug that holds the brakeplate in place .

there should be a month and year stamped on that lug .

Thanks for your reply Eldert,

But, I am interested in knowing the years of manufacture of the Mark3 W / C model, for which I have been reading it would be the 68-72.
And above all to know the range of engine / frame numbers for this model.

On many occasions it is necessary to buy for example a crankcase, or a frame and I would like to be able to identify it.

Thanks.

Ok, I suspect you're getting confused because the Mark 3 name was applied to THREE different versions:

1. The FIRST version of the 350 Mark 3 was made between 1968 and 1970. These bikes generally came with the so-called 'coffin' tank, normally in red or white (in some markets some came with a Scrambler tank).

This 'coffin tank version' of the Mark 3 looks like this:

2. The SECOND version of the 350 Mark 3 came out in 1971 and ran thru into 1972. These abandoned the coffin tank in favour of something less distinctive:

3. The THIRD version of the 350 Mark 3 came out in 1973 and production dribbled on into 1975. This is the Blue and Gold version, looking like this:

So, numbers (sorry, the attachment is being shrunk. Dunno why. Just click on it to see it full size):

A p.s to my earlier message.

That list you reference at http://www.hogervorst.tech/ducati-frame ... xmain.html is in fact the register kept by Robert Miller and hosted on the Bevel Heaven site.

It should be treated with caution!

NONE of the data are cleaned. That means that if someone sends Robert faulty info, it gets included. And you will be surprised how much is faulty, even down to people not being able to correctly identify what model bike they own  .

More importantly, the dating information often refers to the date a bike was registered, not its build date. It can therefore be out by as much as a couple of years.

Ian, on the other hand, references the factory production info. However, this is often incomplete; so it too is not infallible (this is Ducati we're talking about here, not BMW ...). But IMO, it should still be considered the primary source of preference.

(A few years back, I cleaned the data for the SSDs for Robert. So that lot at least is pretty trustworthy ... :D )

Hello Ventodue.

Thank you very much for the clarification, it is just what I needed. I am looking for parts to be able to form a Mark3, it would be first series 68-70.
I have the coffin tank.

I hope to find the Carter with the proper numbering.
Also the original seat, which seems difficult to find.

Thank you very much to all.

I also look for the side boxes.
In case someone has them and is interested in selling them.

Thanks.

Thanks Ventodue.
Yes, I have seen this ad before. But € 380 seems outrageous to me.

I know that it is a difficult part to find and that it will be expensive, but € 380 is impossible.

I hope I can find another more reasonable offer.

Je, je, the coffin deposit in very good condition, it cost me a lot less than € 380.

Thank you, if anyone has Mark3 68-70 parts for sale, they can contact me.

Greetings.
