I can't, but if it helps a British bike cable should fit the Amal carb, say C15 BSA.

Jon's going to be your best man to answer that, Peter. The length might be ok, but will also depend on what throttle you're using, and which carb. Nipples, you see ... :o

Standard Ducati throttle cable used a solderless nipple at the twistgrip, very versatile for length adjustment.

Can anyone recommend a chain breaker tool? And any tips in their use?

My local bearing place sold me a Tsubaki 530 chain and joining link, and a cheap tool, just like this one:

The chain has about 15 links too many, and I thought it would be easy to remove some, but in practising on the very end links of the chain it quickly became obvious that I'm ruining the chain link.

What do people think? Can I remove chain links with this tool if I know what I'm doing? Or should I buy a better tool?

And BTW, why did Mototrans use such a heavy chain?

I worked it out. I used an angle grinder and then the pin pushed out nicely. I'm using a joining link so the plate damaged by the angle grinder is on the bit I throw away. All good!

Hi

I always use a tool like this. I don't try to push out one pin at a time, but swap between the two pins to push each one out a little at a time.
As you have found, a grinder works, just be careful where all that grinding dust is going :) .

That chain is overkill! I swopped mine for the standard Ducati 250/350 size.

As you've discovered, a grinder carefully applied is often the simplest solution :) . That said ...

You're always going to struggle with that type of chain splitter. They're ok on push bike chain, but won't keep going on motorcicle chain. If you intend doing this regularly - without resorting to a grinder - you'll need to beef up a bit ... Something like this, or anything from MotionPro (second piccie)

I wired up the ignition, and fitted a new Lucas coil, and a Gammatronix ignition unit. Turning it over by hand it has a very strong blue/white spark, which I hope is a good sign.

I'm missing a muffler-mounting bolt. Same thread as the footpegs, and my favorite nuts & bolts guy ("we specialize in unusual and obsolete threads") carefully examined one and pronounced it M12x1.0mm, or metric ultrafine; "good luck with that" he said. The closest I can find online is a Chinese A2 SS, which won't be as strong as high tensile, plus it's of dubious provenance.

I could use a smaller diameter and a longer bolt, and a nut, but that would look odd.

Does anyone know of a supplier, or have one they can sell me? I'd be most appreciative.
