110mm is right for some n/c models, altho' it would seem not with that part number :) . See my post above.

My interchange book shows 200VS.CA54 supersedes to 0550.12.040. The 110mm spring might be a NC side stand spring?

Update: I managed to buy a really good oil pump from eBay, which arrived today, so after a good clean I fitted it. It actually has a ball valve, unlike the Mototrans one, which also has a weird housing on the outside of the pump body, possibly this is a kind of pressure relief valve? The body looks quite different to a Bologna one.

I had also discovered a lot of free play in the bevel coupling that I never noticed when fitting the head, so off with its head again and fitted a 0.01 undersized bush, which is pretty tight on the shafts and has taken out almost ( but not quite all) of the play, and while the head was off I helicoiled one of the cam end cap threads that was on its last legs.

Because the remnants of the exhaust port threads only have a tenuous grip, I thought it prudent to fashion a bracket to support the exhaust pipe, which is fixed next to the footrest.

The bike started first kick, which was nice, and I had left off the bevel cover to check that the oil pump was working; for a low-pressure pump, it sure pumps the oil at a furious rate! So that is it for now, until DVLA return to work and send me a log book, there is not much more to be done, except wheel the bike outside and give it a good wash off.

Curious. Definitely shown as 110mm long centre stand spring in this 1959 200 Elite book ...

(Apologies for hi-jacking your thread, Colin :o :) )

Some of the Mototrans part numbers do not tally with Bologna, so I don't see how anyone can know whether certain parts are interchangeable without trying them. Take the 250 Strada camshaft, Mototrans part no: 0603 29 10, which is the Bologna grey cam...But it isn't. Bologna grey: inlet 62/76 ex 70/48; Mototrans grey: inlet 68/95 ex 84/78. Take the bottom bevel crank gear, both have the same part number, but apparently the two are not interchangeable, because Bologna used a different tooth pitch to Mototrans.

There may be many parts where Mototrans deviated from Bologna's specifications, to suit their own production lines, but kept the common part number.

After deliberation on whether to dispense with the rev-counter, last Friday I ordered a new Smiths copy from India, expecting delivery to take weeks. This morning it was delivered by FedEx, which I think is pretty amazing. I don't know if the thing works, but for £11.50 including postage, it sure is a good deal!

Surprise! My new rev counter reads about 1000 RPM under, so it looks like I will be returning to the original plan of dispensing with one. There is a reason why things are cheap!
