NARROWCASE MODELS PAINT - GOLD?

Postby Precizion » Sat Nov 16, 2019 1:52 pm

Hi,

Anyone looking at my Mototrans 175TS, posted a couple of days ago, might be wondering about the "Gold" paint. Me too!! It is very unconvincing. Can anyone out there give a reference as to how to get the correct coulr mixed?

Have a look at the Lechler codes - hopefully the link will work...I think RS Paints can mix the correct colours. I think the colour called "Rame" in the list is the copper/bronze colour used on early bikes.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for link. I contacted R.S. Paints and they can indeed match my Red paint from the Lechter archive. Not cheap (£100 per litre). Whether it is correct for my Mototrans 175TS is a question. Is there any info out there concerning the Mototrans bevel Drive paint variations?

I'm not any kind of expert as I only have one Ducati single - Italian built 175TS of indeterminate age.
There are folks on here and on the various FB groups that know more, but I think the early bikes were almost the same as the Italian built ones.
From the remnants of paint on mine, I think it was originally red and bronze but had been painted yellow and black at some point. I've gone for a blue and silver tank just because I like it, and the frame is pale grey which is not standard.

For the gold try BMW 388 Peach.
Much cheaper than the Lechler paint and available at any automotive paint supplier.

Good info on the gold paint colour (BMW Peach??). Anyone know a modern equivalent paint code for the metailc blue (as used on the 125 Sport)?

The Kingfisher blue is very similar to Subaru 063.

The Lechler paint code (mentioned above) for 'Rame' which is the gold colour is A17.

Vernici Spray produce A17 as 'Orange metallic'

https://www.vernicispray.es/14121216818 ... ge-met.jsp

Which on my screen is a close match to the original on my Mototrans elite.

I had ordered BMW 388 (mentioned above) from them;

https://www.vernicispray.co.uk/scheda_p ... _1900-2020

it has arrived but it is darker. Again, screen colour matches what has arrived (can't know that in advance) :!:

Vernici sell a kit of the colour paint as 1K and a clearcoat as 2K.

If you want to use a BMW colour, Cayenne 520 looks a lot closer to my eye.

One note of caution on my post above: the A17 is a Datsun/Nissan code for a 350Z. It is a happy coincidence that it appears to be close to DUC A17.
