There are any number of posts on this site that identify static timing specs if you take the time to do a little searching. Here’s one: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1833&p=13609&hilit=advance+unit#p13609

Where I am heading here is trying to find out if you have a conventional coil ignition system which usually employs a battery and an adv/retard unit that has a range of 28 degrees when compared to crankshaft position (14 on the unit doubled by the gears) ,or a mag system ,sometimes without a battery, that has a limited range and has to be set up with much more static advance, (and can be a bitch to start!). The ignition coil type is different for each system ,what coil do you have?. I know very little about the Mag system, would not have one at any price.

The coil is unbranded, just a standard looking one that came with the bike. It has an Electrex World ignition system by the way.

Sounds like you have a std battery/coil/points system and a modern alternator, I would try it with 6 degrees static advance.
