Static ignition timing

Postby syrup head » Tue Jun 12, 2018 12:05 pm

I have a 1968 5 speed narrow case 250cc Scrambler and I cannot find any reference to the static ignition timing in the manual. Does anybody know how many degrees it should be? Thanks.

what automatic advance unit do you have ?

the AA 367 B ( advances 18 degrees ) or the AA 359 ( advances 28 degrees )

I think the units only advance half those amounts but its doubled by the gearing?.

The advance and retard units have a code number on them, with a bike of this age anything could be in there and they vary a lot . If the bike has a non std ignition system this may dictate what advance and retard would be the best, and the easiest to live with. More information would help.I'm not even sure a 68 NC scrambler was made.Is it a Spanish made bike?. There are experts on this forum who will help .

You might find your engine no. in this booklet http://www.motoscrubs.com/Ducati_Electrics/Ign_Flywheel.htm. Possibly it helps tpo identify the bike.

Its very likely this is a mototrans built bike, all could be different. Spill the beans.

It is an Italian narrow case from 1968, I know they were not supposed to make them but this is one, I have the original Italian log book to prove it.
