WTD: 250 NC Cam, Rockers & Bearing Cap

Postby Octane » Sat Dec 03, 2016 7:51 am

Whoever built my engine did a very poor job, or didn't do anything at all except polishing the cases.

Both cam bearings let go at some point and wrecked the cam, rockers, and bearing cap beyond repair. So I need some replacements.
I'd really like to take the opportunity to upgrade the head to M1 spec, so it'd be great if I can find a M1 spec cam and rockers.

Pics of the remains that pretty much fell out of the head when I pulled it down.

Hello Nathan,

Was there oil flowing in the head?
If not much you should check the oil passages. Especially the centre case gasket.
I've seen two engines eat top ends because the centre gasket didn't have the oil hole to allow oil to get up the cylinder to the head. They were both red coloured gaskets.
Also where did the metal shavings end up?
I'd remove the crank and clean the sludge trap at least.

It's possible that some of the metal bits have blocked one of the oil galleries. Also one of the brazed oil drain feeds from the head to the alloy bevel gear tube started leaking a lot of oil as it wasn't brazed properly, and was only sealing due to the chrome plating (which eventually broke away) so that may have caused the issue also.

I'm going to take the engine down to Ian Gowanloch's farm once I have all the parts and he's going to help me do a full engine rebuild.
