That's not an uncommon problem,Craig.
I've welded up quite a few widecase stands that were like that or even worse.
They always seem to either crack in that location or bend in a similar place.
Narrowcase stands aren't much better, late Mototrans ones excepted.

The stands are ok as long as you don't kick start when still on the stand. The 450 requires quite a hefty kick and I always stood to the left of the machine to do it. It's a bit awkward but with practice it can be done.

Cheers,

Ah! Ta, Jon. That's good to know (in a perverse kinda way ... ;) . Tell me, did you do any reinforcing when you repaired them?

P.s. That side stand you found for me is earning its keep :D . Excellent timing!

No way I'd even attempt kicking this one over off the stand, Stewart ... :o :o . A (notional) 10:1 compression ratio and no decompressor means I can put my full weight on the kick start lever without it even moving ...

My 450 SCR is a kid's toy by comparison.

Just to finsh this thread off ...

"Good as New". Or rather, "Better than New", given the state of some of the original welds, now all re-done ... :D

Hurrah!

Always good to leave something in a better state than when it was removed.
