Are you talking about needle jets? Also known as atomizers?

Generally, but not always, drilled needle jets are used in four strokes and undrilled in 2 strokes.

If this is the part you're looking at, no cross drilling on mine, stamped '260', from an SSI30A.

Thanks Rick, What i'm having difficuly in working out is why the 260 does not have cross drilling and yet the 265 does. My understanding is that not having the drillings makes the mixture richer and reduces the emulsion effect ,exactly the opposite to what i was trying to achieve by dropping a size(as recommended by an expert).

The needle jet is so shrouded by the 'atomizer holder' that it's hard to imagine holes having much effect- are the cross drilled hole(s) near the top so they align with the array of holes in the holder?
You could put an aluminum plug into the needle jet and solder the holes shut- remove the plug, a little work with a file, and it should act like an undrilled jet.
