Hi All,

I've been offered a V2 desmo camshaft, with the part number "30N". I can't find any information on this part number as I believe the V2 'race' cam has the part number V2-03-001? Would anyone be able to shed any light onto what it actually is? As I'm after a full race cam

I have been advised the V2 is probably the best off the shelf full race cam to get up and running with. Apparently V2 will be remaking their cam's next year but I don't want wait encase it doesn't actually happen (new race season fast approaching!).

I don't know anything about the cam. Because Vee Two remains a viable business so far as I know, perhaps Vee Two themselves would be happy to provide you with the answers.

Thanks for the reply Jim, I did email v2 who said that they would be remanufacturing parts once they’re properly set up again, however I didn’t get a reply to my last email I sent them, so I was hoping someone on here would know before I pester them too much.

E mailing VEETWO about the camspecs is not pestering them . that is called customer service .

VEETWO did change the numbering on the camshafts but i think it is still the same camshaft .

i very much doubt it that the made more then one camshaft profile for the desmo singles , desmo twins where there piece of cake

My VeeTwo V2-03-001 cam has V2 01 stamped on it. I saw there were a few of those 30N cams being sold on eBay a while back and was similarly confused.The only other singles cam I can find reference to is the V2-03-002 which was non desmo. I have some old V2 catalogs and they all refer only to V2-03-001 and 002, so they are no help in identifying what a 30N is. I think Eldert is probably right, I have only heard of one V2 cam profile for desmo singles.

VeeTwo is now being run out of Brook Henry's property in Nannup in country Western Australia about 250km from me. Responses can be erratic, from what I hear. As far as waiting for manufacturing to re-start, I suspect it will be quite some time, and I'd be suprised if any singles stuff was high on the agenda. For mine, you would be well advised not to wait .

I am still yet to try the V2 cam out due to having to deal with other bike issues. There is some discussion on the cam comparisons here...

Eldert pointed this one out in the thread Kev just linked to, when the seller was mistakenly offering it as a 900ss belt type cam for around $350, must have finally figured out it's for a single. I did a lot of searching for info on it at the time and came up empty, at one point made inquiries as to lift numbers and then a substantially lower offer to the seller and got no response to either.
I believe Vee Two made cams to facilitate a 60 degree valve angle conversion, could it be one of those?

That's the very mob, Bill. I couldn't remember who was selling them, but I did recall that they wanted an arm and a leg for one of them.

I recall you mentioning that before. I'll see if I can get through to a friend of friend who was VeeTwo's chief engineer at the time. He should know.

I've done my best to contact Alan, but have been unsuccessful in getting a response on the "30 N" cam. Christmas break and all that. I note the one on eBay is nearing end date, but I'm sorry I don't have any info at this time. I expect to get it, but it mightn't be in sufficient time. Sorry.

Thank you for trying Kev, As you and others have said the cam on ebay is overpriced considering he doesnt know what it is, He was selling alot of parts, and more under a different user name so I expect its just a shed clearout which he's got his hands on? Gransport in Germany list a V2 cam for 310 euros!, however he doesn't have any anymore and doesnt think theres much chance of getting hold of a V2.

I'll send V2 another email after the new year and see how they're going.

I have been reading this thread, and want to offer my experience with this cam.

I was building a 450 engine back in the early 90s, and was looking for a cam to get it up around the 12mm lift that my 76, 750ss had. I had seen the V2 cam that was fitted to the 900ss belt engine, V2034 and wanted some thing like that.

I might be a bit vague on this now, but I got one from Phil ‘R&R’ don’t know what it was called, but I think it was for a 250, as the timing was very long, and the keyway was one tooth out.

Brook did a ‘Blue/Black’ one that I tried, but besides it, still having the keyway one tooth out, it had very bad binding, as the inlet opening and closing lobes were out of phase by a fair bit.
The inlet clearance went from 0.000” to 0.045” over one revolution. I told him what was happening and ended up sending the rockers and cam back to him, to work out what to do.
Eventually he ground a new cam that I fitted and it worked very well. It was not stamped but the paperwork called it as ‘Part No. V2030, and V2032. The rest of the specs were the same as the spec sheet quoted by "whoever it was".

The cam at 12/11mm was the missing piece of the build, the engine came to life, and preformed like a 500SS that Ducati should have built.
