I got caught in some thunderstorms last weekend and it seems I've got some moisture in my white face veglia tacho, so i want to dry it out and seal it properly. I'm pretty sure it's an original model, and it is definitely not the crimped bezel replica, but it's not clear to me on examination as to whether the bezel is a screw on or press fit. Can anyone tell me?

Hi Kev, I have an orrig Veglia on mine , not been inside myself but oily fingerprint on the face tells me that the last owner ( with little mech ability!) managed to get in and out no problem.

It screws on.

The threads are very fine. Counter-clockwise removal as expected.

I think the problem is that age, dirt, etc clog those fine threads. You might need some extra gripping power on the bezel to break it loose so to speak. If you have one of those kitchen grippers for removing stuck jar lids, that might do it.

Certainly emery clothwould do the trick but you risk scratching bezel.

Once it breaks loose it takes a lot of rotations to get it off.

Many thanks Bob and Jim. That was the answer I was hoping for. I just wasn't confident enough to "force the issue" without some confirmation, as it sure wasn't yielding to my gentle persuasion. I'll look at releasing the threads this weekend.

Hi Kev,

I have an original which I stripped down to clean the bezel face, on mine there was a very very small grub screw in the side of the bezel rim, this had to be removed before the rim would turn.

Yes, I had completely forgotten about that set-screw. It's probably been ten years since I had the bezel off of mine. Sorry to have forgotten that, I would hate for my advice to have caused the set screw to tear up the threads.

Hi Kev,If your servicing is succesfull give us the lowdown, i would like to clean and lube mine, I was told by the prev owner that it under-reads by 1500 , you can imagine how i felt when i hit 10,000 a few times!! i have made a few rough checks and its fairly accurate.

Yep, found the grub screw OK thanks guys, but do you think that little sucker will budge? No way. As you can see from the above photos, it's a very fine notch for a small screwdriver and you can't get much purchase on it. I've left it carefully soaking in a little penetrating fluid to see if that will help dislodge it. If I don't have any luck tonight I think I'll take it to the professionals as I'm wary of leaving the internals moist for any longer.

I use a product called Aero Kroil. It has been my experience that it works far better than liquid wrench.

You might try grinding down a screwdriver to fit the screw perfectly, and make it a screwdriver with a handle big enough to give you some torque.
