Dellorto SSI 29D vs Dellorto PHBH30AS for a '66 Mach 1?

I recently bought a basket case Mach 1 that is missing the carburetor. Should I buy a used SSI 29D (the stock carb for this bike) for $400-$600 or should I buy a brand new PHBH30AS (the modern replacement) for less than $200?
The bike is missing many of the original parts so it will be much more custom than stock, however I kind of like the idea of having the engine all stock and running as it was intended.
Opinions? Anybody have experience with either or both? Any other carburetor suggestions?
Thanks!

I think there's a general consensus that if you like the look and originality of the SSI then go for it, if you want the bike to run as good as it can then go with the PHBH.

SSI jets are hard to come by and getting an SSI to tickover is something else, if you are going to ride in town give the SSI a miss.

hmmm... I think I'll save my $$$ and get the PHBH as I plan to actually ride this thing. When I come across a SSI 29D for a song (a.k.a. never), I'll polish it up and put it on the mantle. I do like the look of the SSI. Thanks for your advice!

____ Back when DUKEs came new with the SSIs, that carb was considered as being rather obsolete-appearing and not very attractive/hot-looking (except when fitted with a v.stack inlet-tube !). _ And I-myself have always considered them to be about as 'lovely', seen on a Duke, as a SAFA-battery is -(that is to say 'bad-news' !).
__ As for the more modern Dellorto-model, it's my-own opinion that it's overly-large body looks to be too big for/on a little Duke. _ And I'd thus expect some fitment-issues when trying to get such all properly mounted-up.
__ The cheapest & easiest way-to-go, would be to mount (directly to the cyl.head) a 28mm-Amal, from a Brit.bike (of the late-'60s).
Hopeful-Cheers,
