Another question.

What finish was in the rearset levers and link rod on the Mach 1 and Mk3 ? Looks like some sort of paint to me, as some has chipped off. These have supposedly never been installed. Bought them to replace ones I lost in a move :-(

Thanks

David

The photo I forgot. Don't think it's cad plated. Maybe zinc, or paint

I remember it as a dull plated silvery finish. probably can just spray with car 5 wheel silver .

Pretty sure my one (50 years ago now!) was cadmium plated. Cheers George

Thanks - I came to the conclusion it was probably cad plating. Pretty tough. I bought mine from eBay many moons ago as well, but the corners and edges are quite shiny and rubbed. Not sure if it is worn through to the base metal. Doubtful. I don't think I will do anything to them apart from a wash and wax. They have a distinct green tinge now.

Hi David,

Same bike but opposite side to show the gear change lever.

As a trainee coffin dodger my memory is rather vague recalling how I obtained this, but as can be seen its cadmium plated.

The linkage I semi recall getting this from an online seller.

Thanks for the help folks.

Silly question - did these bikes ever come with rubber on the kickstart? I see them for sale, but never seen a bike fitted with one.

The owners manual shows a bare peg on the kick start lever in the illustrations. Likewise the parts manual for the narrow cases shows both the regular kickstart lever and the lever for the rearset model without any accompanying rubber sleeve on the peg. I don't know what the practice was on the wide case models.
