Hi Folks,
Many thanks for allowing me to join the Forum - no doubt I will be asking some questions! I've had a couple of Monza Juniors and also a long term Elite I've been working on for many years, collecting parts and restoring bits as I've gone along. All of the cycle parts are done and it's sitting on its wheels with an 'empty' engine in the frame to give me some enthusiasm! I have the contents of 2 engines to select the best parts from and I will start assembly in the near future. Like many, I get side-tracked with other projects - I also have a few 70's 4 cylinder Hondas. I bought this unloved 'basket case' Elite because one of my fellow aeronautical apprentices had a brand new one in the 60's

Hi Ian. I too have an Elite awaiting restoration. Bought dismantled, but a full bike. Haven't done much so far, but will start in earnest once I get more time. In in the North East-UK.

Aye Ian,
Welcome! I have no experience of the 160's or Elites, but it's good to see others working away to put another machine on the road. Use the "Search" window in the top right of the forum window to have an initial rake about and I'm sure that others on here will be able to give sage guidance.
Good health, Bill

Thanks for the welcome folks,
Just a few pics to illustrate what's been going on with the Elite over the (too many) years!
As bought!
Some work done
Is it worth doing?
I think so!
Home made wooden battery box - just needs painting

No idea what's gone on with the repeat attachments, I placed them all with comments in sequence!

Hope it's ok to link to my hobby web site page for the Elite? There are a few pages with some of the parts I've made and a bit more of the story. I ought to tidy it up - link wise but workshop time is more inviting!

Welcome Ian, what a nice wee Elite, and what a nice job you are making of it
.........I had one about fifty two years ago which had been converted into a road racer(for the 200cc class in Irish road races). It went really well, revved its little brains out,and with an open megga made a hell of a noise, It came to me with its original log book so I put it back on the road again in full race trim with a stop light and a horn and had a ridiculous amount of fun with it, that was the bike that started me of on a lifelong adventure with Ducati singles. You have made a good choice there.
Cheers, George

Thanks George,
The one you had sounds a lot of fun! I'm 76 this June, so must keep at this one til it's finished. Unfortunately there are no docs with it but part of the old number plate had JW at the end, so was registered in Wolverhampton. They have a fantastic archive but even though I trawled through pages of it, I couldn't find the number. I'll just have to jump through hoops with our DVLA to get it registered. Not sure how I can prove it's a British bike and duty will have been paid and not a recent import - I do have a receipt for it from years back. I think Stan Hailwood (Mike's Dad) or Vic Camp would have been the importers back then. Too early for a Bill Hannah collection bike, I think.
Interesting handle you have - my Physics teacher in Hull in the 60's used to call us all 'Bletherskites'.

Ian, 'blethermaskite' is an Ulster derivation of the 17th century Scottish word 'blatherskite'......a person who can talk at great length about nonsense. Cheers George

Just wanted to say that I’m seriously impressed with your home made battery box! Welcome from an exile Scott from Moray!
