Ducati 350 Scrambler

Postby george6005 » Fri Oct 18, 2024 12:18 am

I am new on this forum. My name is George R. I own a 1968 350 Scrambler. I bought it in 1972 over the years it is in disrepair. 4 years ago I decided to restore it. Finally the job is finished. I have been riding periodically. Running like new. Recently I have been having shifting issues. When reading the manuals I discovered that there is an adjustment screw on the clutch side. What does this screw do and how do adjust

Hi George, and welcome.

The selector box adjuster allows the gear lever to return to the central position after you have changed gear. If it is not adjusted correctly, you will not be able to select the next gear. The easy way to check if the adjustment is out is to put the bike on the centre stand and rotate the rear wheel while changing gear. After you select each gear, release the gear lever and listen - you will hear the selector click back into place and then the next gear can be selected; if the gear lever does not click into place, when you try to change up or down, nothing will happen, the lever will move, but it will not select the next gear.

This is where the adjuster comes into play. When the gear lever has not clicked into place, loosen the adjuster lock nut and gently ease the adjuster clockwise or anti-clockwise; you will see the gear lever move up or down, carry on until you hear it click into place. You will have to have several goes at it until the gearbox changes correctly all the way up and all the way down. When you get it right, hold the screw with a screwdriver while you tighten the lock nut gently.

Good luck,

Colin

From my experience, tiny tweaks of the screw to find the small "sweet spot" where it can do all the up- and down-shifts.

I second that. A small alteration makes a big difference
Good luck, another George

The selector box can also be adjusted when mounted in a bench vice.
