This is my ‘66 NC Scrambler 250.
I’m looking into possible modern alternatives to the stock Dellorto SSI27. Any recommendations from people who have done that?
Modern Dellorto’s or Mikuni?

Mikuni if you can find definitive jetting for it. I tried a Mikuni on my 250 and gave up and fitted a new Amal because I could not get it to run properly on the Mikuni. The Amal performs faultlessly, and the jetting is correct because 27mm Amals were fitted as standard to Mototrans 250's.
Cheers,
Colin

That's a very nice looking Scrambler.
Burlen fuel systems in England can sell you a 27mm Amal 627/419 carb, specified for the Mototrans 250 SCR, so I would expect it to be compatible with your engine. It comes with :
2.5 slide
200 main jet
.105” needle jet
25 pilot jet
You can choose the standard concentric version or upgrade with hard anodised aluminium throttle valve & ethanol resistant float (I did that, no regrets). Or, if you can find an old 27mm concentric you can change the internals to suit.
Cheers,
Al
