Late model 450 Desmo,
I’m building a 450 engine that I’ve had for a long time.
Was in bits when I bought it
The circlip that holds the cam bearing in place behind the cam bevel gear is missing.
Can anyone tell me what size this circlip is ?
Save me taking it out of a going engine to measure.
Number 42 in the Haynes manual.
Thank you
Regards
Graeme

Re: 450 Desmo cam bearing circlip size ?
Aye Graeme,
After a grand day watching the 2024 NW200 on the TV and seeing as nobody had got back to you, I have dug out the one from the back of the 350 MKIII head that I have apart, I believe that they are the same.
The first link is to identify that we are talking about the same circlip #12 in the head drawing.
250-350-and-450-desmo/all/cylinder-head
If this is the case then this second link takes you to one of our UK suppliers, giving dimensions.
Internal-Circlip-for-36mm-Bore-Diameter-Un-Sprung-Diameter-38.8mm
I have also attached an image of my circlip and using verynear calipers, I measure 39mm OD expanded/33mm ID expanded and 1.5mm thickness.
Aurora was magic last night up here and expected for at least another night, I see Oz was getting some good colours and hope that you might see them too on Taz.
Good health, Bill

Thank you Bill,
That’s what I need.
I appreciate the effort you have taken to answer my question.
(take $20 out of petty cash and buy yourself a beer)

Graeme
and yes re the Aurora, it was the largest I’ve seen

Re: 450 Desmo cam bearing circlip size ?
G'day Graeme,
Bit of a damp squib t'night, a wee glow to the north, but not the power of last night, which was exceptional. The last I saw as good was 20 years ago, when the whole of the sky had cloud cover and yet at 16:30 it all turned pink and mauve for a good 30 minutes. I've given up trying to get images as I can't keep the camera still enough.
Glad the info was of use and hope that you get the motor running at your convenience.
Good health, Bill

Apparently it was visible last night but I didn’t see anything.
