450 scrambler carb swap

Postby wmpowell » Sat Mar 02, 2024 5:52 pm

I've been thinking of swapping out the carb on my 450.
anyone have experience with a PWK carb Amal Mikuni alternative 30mm carburetor? the're made in the US so quality should be
good. also been looking at Keinin and Mikuni carbs both made in Japan.
also what would be a good size for the bike? I read the porting isn't the best so should stick with a smaller size so that is why thinking of
a 30mm.

30 - 32mm is a decent size to use for a 450 road bike, it depends on how fast you ride, and there are posts on this forum which give the correct jetting for Amal and Mikuni carbs. You can also use a 32mm Dell'Orto from a Ducati 860 or 900.

Cheers,

Colin

Aye wmpowell,

Try this link to earlier posts on this site: Mikuni_carb_settings

And, 450_Desmo_carb_page_3

Also, try using the "Search" window in the top right-hand corner of the screen, there is a lot of info on the site and it just requires a wee bit of time and searching to find.

Good health, Bill
