It's got disc mounting bolts on both sides, but it's a wire-spoked wheel, unlike any I've seen on a Vento.

I guess there are no stampings on the rim or hub ? Could be from a Forza ? The rim profile looks like an Akront. Disc would be fitted on the left, speedo drive on the right?

The rim is stamped:

Borrani -WM- 2/1.85-18/ 3.6 RECORD -01-4402 Made in Italy.

It's a spindly thing. Both hubs on the Vento are much more solid than this. It's the same on both sides, with a 6-bolt mounting. I can't see any markings on the hub.

Seems to be Italian then..... I wonder if it could be from a two-stroke Moto-Guzzi or similar?

Cheers,

Colin

You could be on to something there, Colin. (Edit: except it seems the Guzzi TS used a single disc ...).

In the meanwhile, a few thoughts, for what they're worth:

1. As far as I am aware, no Italian Ducati single used the combination of a Borrani WM2 18" front wheel + wires + twin discs. So it ain't from one of them.

2. Ditto for the Barcelona bikes (which in addition, at least in the case of my Vento, used 5, not 6, bolt discs). So it ain't from one of them.

3. The first 18" Borrani + wires + twin discs was the 750SS of 1973. But this was a WM3 wheel, not a WM2/1; and it's number is well known - 4777. So it ain't that.

4. Neither the 750 Sport or the 750 GT got twin discs. So nothing there.

5. The 860 GT did, in 1975. But it used WM3 steel Radaellis, not aluminium WM2 Boranis. So no match there.

A good thought, George. We should not assume that rim and hub always went together ...

In addition, I have a note from Eldert that '4402' was, indeed a Borrani code for a rim for "a Ducati single" - but without any further info as to which it might have been.
