No, it won't last because the case hardening on the gear dogs has likely worn away and rounded the corners off.
But you might get lots more miles before an engine teardown is needed to fix it.
With luck, it could see you out!

I have added over 500 miles since shimming gear selector tang and have had no trouble with third gear slipping out. A worthwhile quick fix.

Glad that the bodge is still working and I hope that you are doing ok.
I recently replaced the second gear on the mainshaft with a new one from the Ducati Vintage Company in Italy and it is a superb piece of kit, beautifully finished and a perfect fit, although I don't know if the quality of hardening is any good, as only time will tell. If anyone knows, let us know. We are lucky that there are some good parts suppliers out there.
