Cam Timings

Postby Duccout » Sat Sep 30, 2023 1:51 pm

Just for fun I have been checking the valve timing on my 350. It is fitted with a cam that I was sold as a white cam, but according to 'Jim's Cam Data' there are three different white cams...

My figures are: Inlet Opens 38 BTDC closes 85 ABDC, Exhaust Opens 60 BBDC Closes 38 ATDC.

The three listed white cams have figures of: 37/75 55/35; 27/75 60/32; 32/75 55/44.

So what cam have I got? The cam is a used one, and the rockers have been refaced, so this will affect the timing a certain amount.

It's all all good fun,

Colin

I would hazard a guess its the 37/75-55/35 one, a used cam and rockers refaced will easily account for some degrees of difference, were the previously worn rockers before refacing running on the cam you are measuring?
Cheers,
George

Hi George,

No, the cam was fitted at the same time as the refaced rockers. There are so many potential errors through the cam drive train......It is interesting to speculate how many sets of bevel gears the factory race team went through until they found a set that spun true with no play....

Cheers,

Colin
