Hi, I have decided to fit one of the original Aprillia headlight switches to my headlight shell. I had previously used ( a very long story) the landing light switch from an Avro Shackleton, with the switch knob bonded to the top. It worked really well but requires fixing from the outside with the screw heads visible.
I have the switch from Classic Ducati but now have no idea how it’s secured into the shell? I assume it’s held tight by the central spring being screwed against the inside of the shell?
Can anyone give me the answer?
Regards
Dave

Re: Aprillia headlight switch
Do you have a picture or link to the switch that you are referring to? If it's this one, the board is attached to the shell by two screws. The key is held on by a spring, round disk and cotter pin.

Hi, yes that’s pretty much the same… certainly the same configuration…

It’s where the mounting screws attach to the shell is my issue… I’m sure they are fixed from the inside?

Yes, There is a bracket inside the shell that the board attaches to. I have that switch inside a 150MM shell.

Re: Aprillia headlight switch
Hi, thank you, that explains it. Sadly I don’t have that bracket attached to the inside of my shell. Is it fixed to the shell or separate and just braced against it by the spring?
I may get the landing light switch out again!

Hi, I can see it’s a bracket attached to the inside of the shell….. I will have to see if I can fabricate one!

Re: Aprillia headlight switch
Thanks Bob, that photo certainly confirms that my headlamp shell has been butchered in a previous life. It has a few extra large holes where a Lucas ammeter had been fitted and some others that I have no idea why!
I am worried that the welding up of the holes and fitting a home made bracket will distort it too much. Hence I’m now on the lookout for a replacement. I’m off to Italy in a couple of weeks so will try to find an auto jumble or dusty garage to rummage around!
I hope to get her fired up in a few days… that will the first time in over 25 years!

Re: Aprillia headlight switch
Good evening Dave and list-
I noticed this headlamp bucket on ebay, when I was trying to sort out my electrics in my 1966 scrambler, which has an incorrect headlamp bucket.

This one seems identical to what I have on my bike. Is it similar enough to yours? Would it work?
Sincerely,
