Engine case cut away?

Postby Ron C » Sat Jan 28, 2023 3:49 pm

I picked up a 250 MK3 engine yesterday with some of case cut-away. The gentleman I got it from. Said thats what is done in racing community. Thought odd. It was cut out with care.
The engine does not have rev counter and had a SSI 27 carb on it.
Already in basement and apart. Plans are to put on my Monza 250.

Very common on race prepped engines.......usually the gear change cover is also cut away ,all done in theory to gain easy access to the clutch cable for a quick replacement, also a bit more access for chain and gearbox sprocket swops and it removes a little weight off the motor  ??.
Cheers,
George
