Does anybody know where I can find information on the original design horse power (HP) of all the Ducati singles, particularly the later widecase.

AFAI remember, Cycle World got 22 bhp from their 250 Mach 1 when they put it on the dyno, and I would think that all of Ducati's Single-cylinder power figures are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

A few years ago, 'Classic Bike' put a selection of motorcycles on a dyno and showed the RWH, and it was quite amazing, all bikes put out nowhere near the claimed horse power, with 750's as low as 40 bhp if I remember. Torque is king!

I heard a figure of 16BHP for a 1974 250Mk3 WC. I don't know the origin of the figure. 16 seemed a bit low but maybe it is correct. The factory figure for my 1982 Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans III is 76BHP, which always seemed a bit high! I should add that the figure is at the crankshaft.
As they say there is lies, damn lies and statistics!!

I once read that to reach 100mph, a motorbike weighing 300 pounds needed 30bhp or thereabouts.

And a set of low bars, a racing crouch, and a set of full racing leathers
