Hi all,
Does anyone know the color of this original gas tank? I am having a reproduction made and my painter asked if I know the color code. This is an original 1969 scrambler tank fitted to a 350 mark 3 desmo. Ideally I would like to know a PPG code (or equivalent) but if that is not possible, the color name or original Ducati code.
I found a little information on a few websites, but they are in Italian:

Thank you,
Neal.

Re: Gas tank color identification
Aye Neal,
Copy the Italian text into "Google Translate" Italian to English and then you may be able to make better sense of the article. Translation may not be perfect, but, if needs must.
Personally, I would take the tank to a reputable wholesale vehicle paint supplier and ask them to scan unfaded areas of the tank paintwork using a spectrophotometer. From this they should be able to give you guidance as to the PPG code, or similar paint mix formula.
The vehicle finisher who has painted my tanks etc uses RS Paints to supply him with small quantities of specialist motorcycle colours and I believe that they are very helpful in trying to sort something out, if it is obscure. RS Paints link: RS_Bike_Paints
I hope this helps.
By the way, have you seen that others on this forum are looking for dimensions for the areas painted and chromed on similar tanks to yours. Would it be possible, before having yours changed to take the relevant measurements and notes to enable anybody requiring these details to find them on this forum? This is the link to the request for dimensions on this forum: Scrambler_tank_chrome_panel_paint_area_dimensions_request?
Thank you and good health, Bill
