Aye Richard, as a supplement to your questions rather than an answer, what size sprockets are you using, front and rear? Standard or modified? Trying to help you get the correct answers.
Good health, Bill

Parts book:
1/2" x 5/16" (= 428* in today's language), 120 links.

But as per Bill; all that assumes you're running standard sprox, of course.

* Same size as sold by Ducati Vintage Store, btw.

Wish I could help you out Richrd, ... but my 350 headlight bucket was a rats nest inside and i never could figure out if my indicator lights were even correct never mind what wires should have ran to them. :o

Ah, Richard, you would not believe the potential hornets' nest that your innocent question might disturb ... :D :D . I freely admit it's one of the reasons I haven't replied before now ;). But here goes ..

First off, I'm going to assume you have one of the bullet shaped headlamps, not a pancake style. I have photos of at least half a dozen different variants of these. So let's cut to the chase ...

This is one of the more common variants you will see.
Light switch on the top, idiot lights as shown, ignition switch on the left. This is the same as what Ducati Vintage Store sell, btw. Note however that the idiot lights are sometimes reversed - see the second photo.

Moving along, here's another version, this time without the light switch on top. And a green parking light/lens. And the ignition switch on the right.

And here with both the ignition switch and the light switch on the sides - ignition switch to the right, light switch to the left. And a green parking light/lens.

I hope you're following all this ... ;) :o :o

And here's a variant on that, with the addition of a blue indicator light. But no idea what it's for ...

I think I'm going to stop now ...

thanks ventadu, you are helping. 'cept mine has the speedo in it. which brings up the next question of how does the speedo mount. I have a u shaped bracket to fit the bottom of the speedo but what fastens it to the bucket?

this bike was a barn find before barn find was a catch phrase. I will try to start it tomorrow. !! ??

Ah .. Ok, in that case, here's what the parts book says ..

As for how the speedo mounts, you just gently tighten up the U-bracket against the headlamp shell using the two special nuts (part no. 620 in the drawing above), so pulling the speedo down into the hole.
