After quite a few hurdles to overcome, my 1959 200 SS engine is assembled and ready to install in the refurbished frame.
It only took seventeen years.

Yes, il is a too beautiful engine to be mounted and used on a motorbike. Anyway, congratulations for such work

Thanks all for your comments, yes they really are a lovely looking little engine, but it was not designed to look at, so it's back in the frame, and lets hope it lives up to expectations when it's fired up.
I did quite a bit of internal scheming with with the rebuild as it had had quite a hard life, it now has a late type clutch in the early cases. and a few other mods.
There was not too much which did not require attention, including the frame and fittings.
I have now got to the stage, where apart from making the control cables and wiring harness, most parts are ready to assemble.
I have lost count of the hours, but then that's the fun and satisfaction in bringing something back to life.

Now! That will be a bonnie looking machine Brian and I am delighted that you will give it some welly!
The early mods will hopefully play ball and make your life easier to ride and maintain the bike.

Just for my education, you have studs and nuts holding the head down but mine has long bolts. Is that standard, or a modification?

Hi Ian, yes the studs are a mod, two of the threads in the crankcase where shot, so I helicoiled all four. The reason I used studs rather the the original bolts, is the studs can be installed (with copper slip) making full use of the length of the insert, and there is no torsional load on the insert when tightening the head down.
I made the studs from 316 stainless rod, and the nuts from aluminium bronze to eliminate galling, with a 10x1 thread.
The downside being they would have to be removed to take the head off with the engine in situ, but there is enough thread to use double nuts for removal.
