Bakelite fuel cap

Anyone know how to seal the Bakelite fuel caps properly, or even if it’s possible?
Mine has a reproduction cap with a leather seal and leaks a bit via the seal but mostly by spitting fuel out through the little vent hole. Worse when the tank is fairly full.
In general it’s just an annoyance as it runs down and makes a mess but doesn’t harm the paint. But when I rode it every days on the 3 Moors Run, it started to lift the edge of the paint round the neck.

I have only the cap and seal ring.
I can see the extra piece (middle one in photo) in my parts book but was not sure what is was, or what material.
I have not been able to find one by searching in usual places but maybe can try there.

The domed rubber inner seal is available at Classic Ducati for £6.95.
That should cure most of your leaking.

That must be a new product since the business changed hands. Definitely didn’t have them before but I’ll get one ordered.

the type of rubber used in the Classic Ducati domed innercap does not like modern fuels .

They claim it’s good for ethanol. Not too expensive to try.

Aye Ian (Ranton Rambler),
I have a few sheets of differing thickness 'Viton' for these little jobs involving ethanol fuel. I purchase mine from a UK company on eBay, they also supply gasket papers etc and their link is below:
