Help in identifying 250 Narrow Case

Hello, new member here with two 250s one a 1973 Scrambler, which needs total restoration, seized, the kick start is frozen and won’t release even with the clutch pulled. the other is an unknown, sold to me as a 1976 250 imported to the UK from Spain Cadiz, it’s a bit noisy in the top end but starts nicely and all 5 gears select ok.
However it’s a narrow case 250 with the frame number MD 42584 and engine number MD 250 on left crankcase and 402685 on the right side. Maybe a Hotch Potch of spares, as you can see it’s been restored, I can’t identify it, can’t be 1976, any ideas as to what it is?

Your narrowcase 250 is a Spanish home market 250 Road 77.
Your photo does not appear, but with those numbers it is unlikely to be a hotch potch of spares.
The engine and frame numbers indicate a bike built in 1977.
It should be a 5-speed, 12 volt model.
Production of the narrowcase 250 Road ended in mid-1978 when the 250 Strada was introduced.

Certainly not a hotch potch of spares.
Apart from the front mudguard, which has been cut back a bit shorter at each end, your Road 77 is almost completely in standard trim as it left the Mototrans factory.
The yellow paint is also non-standard. Most were painted orange.

Is that the bike that was sold on eBay recently? Looked a nice bike, but I was a bit puzzled by the square barrel on what I assume is a 69mm bore engine, or were the later Road models fitted with the 75 x 57.8 cranks?

The Road 77 model was usually fitted with a square shaped cylinder barrel, but not always.
It will be a 69mm bore with the 66mm stroke.
The square barrel on the 69mm bore motor is a very slightly shorter casting than the 74mm bore motor of the Strada.
