The dowty washer looks like the best of both worlds. Thanks for the tip guys. I now see that the copper one i found online also seems to have a layer of rubber in between:

Next day the battery was down to 6.34 volt. Is that a normal drop in 24 hours?


Hi Edwin,

yes of course, this a normal drop. After having achieved a full charge, every lead-acid battery looses cell voltage. After a short heavy load (i.e. 45W headlight lamp) for several minutes you'll eperience the same effect. This page http://jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/carfaq4.htm gives some information abut cell voltages in different charge states. 6.34V is equivalent to 100% charge at 25°C.

Trust me ;) go for the "dowty" washers, been using these for over thirty years.

Recently used one on a friend's 2CV, the oil temperature pick-up. Had leaked for years, he told me. He was SO happy when it didn't no more ... :D
