I have a 350 Scrambler camshaft that was excessively worn due to a severed oil pump. I replaced it and the rockers with a 250 Scrambler cam and screw type adjustable rockers. Can the 350 cam be reconditioned possibly by building up the lobes on the cam with weld? Has anybody done this? It looks like the damage was limited to the cam and rockers because the bike runs fine with the new setup. All the bearing seem to be fine and there is no noticeable noise.

It definitely can be done, there are companies in the UK that do it (usually, I believe with stellite weld) so there must be equivalents in the U.S.

If not, there is a small company in Britain called Joy Engineering who are well-known to posters on here who can do the job; it is not cheap though, I believe that the charge for the cam is around £120 and rockers £30 each.

Webcam in Riverside, California will hardweld and regrind your cam. They can recondition your rockerarms as well. Another vendor is Megacycle cams in the SF Bay Area.

I have also have an old air-cooled Porsche, there is a guy named John Dougherty that is fairly well known and endorsed on the Porsche forums. His name is John Dougherty, here's his website www.drcamshafts.com. I don't know if he does motorcycle cams, but if he doesn't he may be able to refer you to someone that does.

Is there anywhere you can but new race cams ? They may be better priced than having them rebuilt?

Thanks I found the page on Nigel's site with the cam. With the exchange rate (which is poor) and shipping, that equates to nearly $700 NZ. If it was only the cam fine, but with a full rebuild, I have to watch the pennies (actually Pounds). Rims, spokes, tank, fairing, seat, running gear, valves etc Ouch Ouch Ouch.

Megacycle in California has two billet cams in their catalog. The softer option is probably suitable for street use. If you could convince them to ship by US Post Office international small flat rate box cost is only US$27.50.
