Mototrans 350 Headlight Bucket Hole

Postby AlexM » Sat Apr 25, 2020 8:21 pm

Hi folks,

I'm new here, and working on a 1973 Mototrans 350 Road. I've cleaned up the headlight and am wondering if you folks can help me identify a "mystery hole" in the bucket (denoted with a "?" in the picture below). Any insight would be much appreciated; I can't seem to find reference to it in any documentation or, despite some similar threads, on the web.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Alex

Hi Alex

the headlight in your picture is a 450 RT item . pretty rare .

there is a rubber grommet in that hole and the dip switch wires run thru that hole .

So the search is on for a Road headlamp!

I'm certainly no expert, but I do have an unmolested 1972 mototrans road 250. My headlight bucket looks just like yours but with the mystery hole plugged. Oh, and the chrome is not as nice and I have a small dent by the indicator lamp!

Interesting ..

I had noticed that the two (Road and RT) did, on casual observation, appear very similar. Your post makes me wonder whether they were, in fact, the same .. ;)

Hmm, definitely interesting. Maybe the search is off?

Is your headlight ring stamped "Aprilia"? If it is it certainly seems you have the same headlight setup mine had from new.

Yep, it is! It definitely appears to be exactly the same headlight.
