These are called "Dowty" washers a well known favorite of the Velocette guys :) velo singles have a similar to Ducati 3 branch cylinder head drain.

This morning I finally got around to checking the valve timing with my white cam and found it to be 30 degrees out! Jon had said previously that it was essential to check the timing, but I had done a visual check through the cam cap with the piston at tdc and both lobes were at 4 and 8 o'clock, so seemed it right and I had no enthusiasm at the time. I've moved the lower bevels one tooth onto the other timing dot and now the timing is almost perfect.

The moral of this story is: always check!

Yes, but does it now run better, Colin? ... :D

Or are you still battling oil leaks? :o

Hi Craig,

I can't say yet as I'm a bit tied up with working on the house (the roof to be exact!) and there just seems so much going on at the moment. I tried to get out on the 900 Desmo on Friday, wheeled the beast out, parked the car, locked up and saw petrol dripping from one of the petrol taps.......Grrrrr. Gave up, tried to find a replacement tap on line, gave up as there are none available, ordered a Guzzi one hoping I can re-route the fuel line.

The little Strada is gradually whipping me into shape, and I'm hopeful that I've got the oil leaks sorted. My previous three Singles have been so oil tight that the engines used to get dusty, so fingers crossed.

Colin

Now, when that happens to me, it's normally the poxy needle valve and the petrol is peeing out all over the place ....
Altho' I did once change a petrol tap on my Laverda Corsa in a French motorway service station. Left a bit of a stain on the concrete ... ;)

Yeah, Ducrappis don't leak ... :? ... so you'll get there.

Now get back to that roof!
(Me, I'm laid up with a broken collar bone. Don't ask, it's way too embarrassing ... )

Sorry but I'm asking! My bet is it's bicycle related?

Jesus Craig, how are you really? I hope that the broken collar bone is all the injuries that you have. What bike were you on? Not the Darmah SS? How much damage? It is so easy to forget to retract the prop stand and I'm sure that we have all done it.

Hope that you make a quick recovery!
