instrument earths

Postby Scottish888 » Fri Mar 20, 2020 10:24 am

Can anyone tell me how the instruments should be correctly earthed.
My bike has an earth wire just pressed in beside the bulb holder.
Should it be earthed on the mounting bolts?
Regards

I soldered an earth wire to the earth on each bulb holder then ran an earth to the main earth in the headlight.
I can only think the tach and speedo cables provided an earth to the frame originally.?

I have owned my 1974 350 mk3 from new, and if I remember correctly the instruments were both earthed through the rev and speedo cables, I am almost certain there was only a single skinny little black feed wire to each bulb holder. I have long since re wired the entire bike and fitted dedicated earths to each instrument exactly as Graham described.
Cheers,
George
