Hi just joined the forum as I have just bought a 1965 Ducati to restore I was sold it as a 1965 Daytona but by the engine and frame numbers it appears to be a Mototrans Deluxe it has a 5 speed gearbox any help or spare parts for sale would be appreciated.
My main restorations have been Old British Bikes so certainly need help on this one

5-speed Mototrans De Luxe was not produced until 1967.
The engine and frame number, or even the original Spanish registration number could help date your machine a bit more accurately.
What parts are you short of?

Dave,
here http://www.motoscrubs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2652 is an older thread with more information about the 250 deLuxe.
And this list http://www.lamaneta.org/numerochasis/ducati.html might help to identify the bike and its year of mfg.
Posting some photos would be helpful for the Mototrans experts in this forum (i am not one of these).

Thanks Jon I have a authentification letter signed by Roy Bacon saying it is a 1965 Ducati Daytona 249 capacity engine no MD91850MD and frame number MD88264 but when measured bore it was 68mm and couldn’t find that in any of the books I have bought when trying to buy a Conrod kit I was told it must be a Mototrans the tank which needs repair appears to be a Daytona so a complete mystery to me that has spent years on British Bikes.
I need a Conrod kit and a frien who used to race Ducati said just re ring the piston and put back in but I don’t really feel that is the right way.Dave

Your dating letter from Roy Bacon shows how little he knew about Ducati singles.
I would doubt that it would be accepted by the DVLA in the UK now, because it was issued so long ago.
The DVLA usually require a dating letter to be less than one year old nowadays.
From the numbers that you have given, your frame was produced in the middle of 1964, probably July.
The engine is a later 5-speed motor from about 1970.
It is certainly a 250 De Luxe, and the fuel tank is almost an exact copy of the Italian Daytona tank, so it sounds like you have the correct one.
Con rod kits are expensive. Nigel Lacey stocks the Samarin rod kit for the Mototrans 250.
It is similar to the Italian 250 rod kit but uses a different crankpin, so is not interchangeable.
Rod kits can be obtained from Spain slightly cheaper, but the quality is not as good as the Samarin rod.
Jesus Guzman lists rod kits on his Recambio Usado website . Look for Ducati 250 carter estrechio
69mm rings are not easy to find, although Jesus Guzman can probably make up a set from individual rings, or an internet search should produce some results.

(The 'MD' suffixes to the frame and engine numbers tell you straight away it's a Mototrans, not a Bologna bike. So therefore it can't be a Daytona).
