Marzocchi fork strip down

Postby Scottish888 » Thu Nov 14, 2019 1:13 pm

About to strip the forks of my 1974 Ducati 250 MK3, I think they are Marzocchi brand.
I will be having the stanchions reground and re chromed
I have the Haynes manual but I think it focuses on the other fork brand..ceriani ? Are there any tips or things I should look out for when removing the stanchions?

Regards,

Alex

Yes, the Haynes manual shows the Ceriani fork used in the disc brake singles. The Marzocchi was used with the 180mm Grimeca drum brake.
Here https://send.firefox.com/download/f40c166da14ae836/#8W67CsfVJMYwwolc1UAK_A you can download a brochure from Marzocchi with service tips. Imho the "S" model comes close to that used in the singles.

Thank you Hans,

That is perfect.
Are any of the damper internals available to buy? One of the small springs looks out of shape, I could try reforming it.

Alex

Aye Alex,

If you can give me a day, I will try to sort out some Marzocchi internals information and where I obtained some parts from, when I rebuilt mine on the 450.

As well as the spring that appears K.O.'d, I would advise that you replace the nylon bush on the piston that appears to be worn and work hardened.

I will make a further contribution to this thread tomorrow.

My regards, Bill

Thanks Bill,

Much appreciated :)
I will do a better web search to see what I can come up with.

Kind regards,
Alex

Aye Alex,

I have sent by email a couple of links and a pdf of the Marzocchi forks manual that I use.

For others I would suggest that a word with Maxton Engineering: Maxton_Suspension

Or, Reactive Suspension: Reactive_Suspension

The latter specialists supplied spare parts and a cartridge emulater kit for my Marzocchi forks.

I hope this helps.

My regards, Bill

I would like to replace the split nylon bushes on the dampers, does anyone know if they are available.
I can follow Bills advice if they can't be found.
I may consider making some up using ptfe rod but don't know the original dimensions.

Kind regards,

Alex
