That would appear to be correct. To quote Tom Bailey:

" ... seldom did the dealer stamp the final number on the foil because to reach it required taking the time to remove the headlight. We never stamped the foils at the dealership where I worked. And the vast majority of the '60s singles I have seen have only the "196" on the foil."

ozzie450-

I have a 450 Silver Shotgun frame that came from a bike originally sold in AU.
I bought it from Phil Hitchcock about 12 years ago. The numbers stamped on it are:

DM450M3*700474*
DGM 8586-OM

From Robert Millers singles registry, corresponding engine numbers appear to be in the range of 455xxx-457xxx.

I don't have the original engine so will be using one I picked up from an RT locally. Happily, I do have the correct road desmo head for it.

By comparison, I have a 1974 Blue & Gold 450MK3 with original frame and engine. Frame # is *701540*, engine is 461286.

ozzie450 wrote:Hi, I have just got a 450 Shotgun in pieces and working through what I have got and am interested if finding out if the frame number and engine number are right for this model. Here people have mentioned Ian Falloon's book is the best reference. Which of his books would be the right one for me to get. Cheers for now.

This is the one I'm going to purchase. I think it's the one everyone references.

Hi thanks for your help.
I will order these books which I am sure will help.
It is a great site and I look forward to reading more about the single Dukes.
My bike's engine number is 457201 and the frame number is *700699* and the model type is DGM 8586 OM
The bike has a 4shoe front brake, 35mm forks and a Desmo motor so I hope it is the real deal Shotgun.
What ever it origins are I will have fun building this bike from parts in boxes to a fun ride.
Cheers for now!
