125 TS - Type of rims?

Postby Lid » Thu Aug 01, 2019 11:22 am

Hi!
I want to know what type of rims my little 125 TS had from the factory and also what kind of tyres and dimension? They are 17 inch.
The two wheels I have has two different rims so I want to build me a new correct set.

Thanks a lot. Jesper from Sweden.

Could I fit 18 inch wheels and tires under original fenders?

Your 125TS looks like a Spanish Mototrans machine.
The correct rims are Akront WM1 17 inch flanged rims (1.60 x 17 ).
Original tyre size was 2.50 x 17 front and 2.75 x 17 rear.
I think that you will find the mudguards (fenders) could take an 18 inch wheel, but you would have to fit very skinny tyres as there is very little clearance .
The 125 and 160 mudguards are about an inch narrower than those fitted to the 175, 200 and 250 models.
I'd stay with the 17 inch wheels and keep the bike original.

Thanks a lot, Jon! :!:
I'll guess youre right and I think Im gonna stay with the 17". Just thought my other bevel single looked perfect with its 18 inch wheels. ;)

How could you tell its from Spanish Mototrans? Were there both Italian and Spanish 125TS?

Your 125 appears to have the clutch inspection cover with just 'Ducati' on it, without 'Made in Italy' cast in smaller letters below, indicating a Mototrans machine.
Also, the black breather is a Mototrans fitment.
There are other differences, notably cast horizontal ribs across the front of the crankcases on Spanish bikes where the Italian cases are smooth.
The engine and frame number series are different between Italian and Spanish bikes. Spanish bikes are numbered 10---, 11---, 12---, 13---. Italian bikes are numbered 650000 onwards

The front and rear rims are laced different ways also.
The front has the inner spokes in the same direction and the rear has the inner spokes in the opposite (to each other) direction.
I am trying to work out which is correct for Mototrans bikes.
At the moment, I suspect the front wheel is correct.
Keep a record of spoke lengths before you destroy them.

Maybe this will help, a couple of photos of my Mototrans 125TS which I picked up in Spain.
The rims are 17" ally as already said, but I can't find any manufacturer's name on them.
Theree's no flange on these, and the brakes seem way over the top for the weight of the bike.
Still, it handles well and is fun to ride.
Good luck with yours
