250 single, remove oil strainer mesh

Postby Scottish888 » Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:24 pm

The oil strainer mesh housing is being difficult to remove from the external nut, any tips?
I can turn it a little by hand but can't remove it from the nut, had the brass nut in the vice and still cant pull the filer mesh out.
I bought a new nut as the brass original was well rounded.

The original plastic filter is moulded into the brass nut and will be difficult to remove without breaking it. Your best bet (short of cutting the nut off) would be putting the whole thing in boiling water and trying to pull it off (wear gloves!).

Thanks Nigel,

The strainer broke when trying to free it so I just ordered a new one from your shop today.
It split where it enters the nut, the remainder of the sleeve is still jammed inside the nut.

When you get the new one: Pour boiling water over the nut in the sink, dry it, then push the filter into the nut. The heat will soften the plastic slightly and make fitting much easier.
