Hi. I’m patiently waiting for an orange 450 Desmo (1974) to buy in Australia but not sure what I should expect to pay for one in fair to average condition (ie it would be need to be running well but not restored). My only reference is a Silver (Shotgun) 250 Desmo currently for sale @ $15000. Can someone in Australia advise me on current values or point me to where I can get the right info? Pm me if preferred. With thanks, Dave

Hello Dave,

Hard to find a good ‘74 450 Desmo at any price.
I’ve seen them sell on eBay from 15 to 22 k over the last few years.
Best bet is to find one by word of mouth rather than advertised on eBay etc.
They are out there but not many are seen or for sale.
Find someone who has one not being used and pester them.

Graeme

With those prices being asked and sometimes paid its no wonder that I seem to be the only Ducati single owner who is prepared to risk riding the thing in my area. Perhaps I should put it in a Museum , its very sad.

In my non-professional opinion the price is currently a little on the high side for today's market, at least for now (2018) as you might still be able to get a rough condition round case 750 GT rider at that price.

With the lack of bidding I think many people agree with me.

Still though, I think that for long term ownership and enjoyment on a bike that is very likely to experience aggressive value increase over time this model of Ducati single is on the top of a collector's dream list alongside a Silver Shotgun, a Mach 1, and a few others.

A friend of mine has a 73 & 74 450 Desmos and he wouldn't part with either.

74's will be hard to find in any price range and will pull more $$$'s than a 73 or a Shotgun in similar condition. $18-20k is probably a fair price for a 74 in decent running condition. A friend of mine recently (last year) paid $15k for a 450 Shotgun in decent running condition, but it did need a few things tidied up.

Myself and my old man would love to find a 74 350 Desmo, but they're even rarer. I've only ever seen a couple of them in the flesh here in Aus.

For sheer enjoyment on the roads, the 450 Desmo is hard to beat.

yes, I owned a 450 Desmo back in the 70s, sold it for about $800. It was great to ride.
