Mach 1/Mark 3 front fender info

Postby kaysystems » Sat Apr 21, 2018 11:52 am

I've been trying for years to figure out which is the correct front fender for a 67 250 Mark 3 Narrowcase. Ive seen some on eBay with a downturned lip, but an expert who has been associated with Ducatis for decades says it is incorrect (I believe him)

Then my question is - what does this fender actually belong to?
I have one and the outside dimension is 3 1/4"

David-
I'll attach a drawing of the profile of a fender I believe to be a Mach1- I didn't buy the bike new and keep an eye on it ever since, but it looks correct to me- no guarantees. Fenders I've seen all have the front edge turned- without the turned lip the edge would be really fragile- the lip gives the fender some cross section. You could print, cut out, and test the top part of the drawing against your fender.

Thanks Rick

I'm on the same page as you. I've noticed that all the fenders are not exactly the same width. They vary by 1/8" or so, but we also know that Ducati had different suppliers over time so there can be differences. I'll use my lipped fender when I get that far on my restoration.

Don't know if this helps, but I saw this bike at Stafford Show today. It's a 1965 250 Daytona that was parked up with 51 miles on the clock and has now been recommissioned. 1100 miles now! According to the accompanying information, the bodywork is all original. Small down-turned lip on the front edge.
There was also a 125 Sport, which had a flared up lip on its mudguard.

Thanks

I can now tell my expert, who says it was never used on a production Ducati

“X” is an unknown quantity
“Spert” is a drip under pressure

I recently bought a guard that was called a Mach1 type ,it has a raised front lip, a very narrow bridge without pressed feature and a bulbous shape where bolted to the fork leg.

I don't think the raised lip was on the Mach 1. I bought a Mach 1 type on eBay and it had the downturned lip.

Apparently the Mach 1 guard is narrower than most - about 80mm max overall width of the actual guard (not the brackets.

You could well be right, but as my bike is for riding (and it looks tidy) it will do for me.
