From what I’ve seen and owened in Australia the last casting were all 46———- serial numbers and all 1974, disc brake yellow bikes or late Scramblers with double sided drums.
Also the blue and gold m3
Only 450’s
It would be interesting to know the serial number these started from.
All the 1973 bikes were the earlier narrow bolt castings. That I’ve seen anyway .

Roberto, that engine looks to be in good condition
You might have a good one.
But you won’t know for sure until you decide if you are going to build a 350 and look inside.

As Hans suggested, I reckon it could have been the 250s and 350s also:

Ian's Book of the Ducati Overhead Camshaft Singles has photos of both a 250 and a 350 Desmo engine with wider bosses at the front of the engine (page 250). The caption of the 350 photo dates it as 1974. The 250 caption isn't specific, however - could be '73 or '74.

Massimo Clarke has a photo of a 350 Desmo with wide front bosses, but it's not dated (page 47). But the bike's a drum brake model - which I think is 1973? He also shows a 250 Mark 3 (page 54). But again no help on the year - it's only labelled as "1973/4".

Trivia, I know but ...

Is it just me, or does Roberto's engine seem to have a particularly pronounced thickening here? Neither of my singles has anything similar, nor do I see it on any photos ... except on 1968 models.

i have a 450 engine with engine nr 460754 and it still has the narrower bolt spacing .

Any idea what year that might be, Eldert? 1973 or 74?

With regard to narrow or wide bolt spacing, on either side of the crankcase mouth:
A long time ago I saw the insides of two engines, that I'm pretty sure were both 450s.
One had hollow dowels at the bolt locations either side of the mouth, the other had them located elsewhere.

i have a 450 engine with engine nr 460754 and it still has the narrower bolt spacing .

i checked a few 450 cases i had laying around and i have a case with number 460569 and it had the wider spacing .

beats me , the later engine nr is still the narrow bolt spacing so the change must have been around these engine numbers
