I very much doubt if this is a "new" topic but, I could not find the info I needed by any combo of words on the search page.
So could someone give me a safe value on the front and rear axle nuts on a 66 Monza ?
I know every body starts to laugh when we speak of torque values and our older bikes but, I would like to try and do this
the right way and not screw it up!
Any other proven assembly values are also most welcome.

A common method is to keep tightening until the thread just starts to strip, then back off a little.

Additionally, the grade of the steel that axle and/or nut are made of is unknown, which gives more uncertainty. I presume a not too high grade for the axle, like ISO 5.8 or 6.8, the nut might have higher grade (8.8), and might carry a corresponding marking. However, the softer of both parts limits the permissible torque. I tightened the axle nuts of my 350D (M16x1.5) to 12-15 Nm.
