Postby Dodge » Thu Oct 26, 2017 8:48 pm

Does anybody know the colour code for the metallic blue on the Blue/gold WC 1975 Mk3 singles?

I have a 1974 Mark III which was purchased in '74. When refurbished 10 years ago, I looked for paint to match the metallic blue from off-the-shelf samples of spray cans. The blue which came closest was "quasar metallic blue", a GM paint that came in light, medium and dark. When I took the parts to be painted professionally, I asked for a spectrographic analysis of the old paint and a match with reference to "GM Quasar Blue Metallic". I'm not sure the formulation was exact, but the paint color was perfect. You can get images of the color on the web, or perhaps a sample at an auto parts store.

FWIW ...

The original paint supplier was a company called Lechler. The company is still in existence and the Lechler reference for the blue on the w/c Mark 3s is:
Bleu met A32.

The company has a US sales operation based in St. Charles, IL. Go:

When I was trying to source Lechler DUC A13 - Rosso Corsa, I inquired with the USA sales contact. Their reply was pretty straight forward... "You have the wrong Lechler, please contact: http://www.lechler.eu/en/". So I did - and never got a response.

I did download the Lechler app onto my iphone and was able to generate the formulas... unfortunately, there is no one local to me that carries Lechler paint.

Very interesting. Howlindog your information looks useful. The colour code for my MK3 is "DUC A34" not A32. I have not been able to access the Lechler app.

However I realise that this is a subject that is open to much debate :o :) , viz. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2105&start=60.

I've updated my post, above, to include the formula for DUC A34 as well.

Ventodue and howlndog, thanks for your help. I think that you are right – my colour is A32. Now to find a UK supplier!

Are you going to paint it yourself, or get someone to do it? I dropped my tank off to be painted last week, and told the guy I wanted Lechler DUC A22 (Azzuro Metallizzato). No problem he says, although he uses Glasurit paint. Presumably the trade suppliers have access to the colour mixing information.

But as Ian said, a good spray shop should be able to make it up using the info that howldog posted.
