alternator timing

Re: 1967 250 Scrambler, Just found that the alternator rotor was set at about 40 degrees behind TDC. It is suppose to be at 32 to 36 degrees Before TDC. I think someone did not realize that the motor rotates counterclockwise when viewed on this side. Sure could explain a lot of the ignition problems this poor old gal had years ago. Are there any suitable AC coils available in the USA? Thanks to for the info on the supplier in England.
I still can figure out why the coil negative side gets grounded, instead of going to the points/condenser.
