Hi to all,

I'm a newbie to this but would like some help with my 175 Single that I've recently picked up.
First , just confonfirmations. Frame number I believe to be 02652 and engine 00646. I believe this to be 1957?
Secondly, I believe it to be a "T" and not a "Sport" which I thought I had. This is not a problem as the guy thought it was a 1963 bike. Does anyone know what colours they were orginally painted in? I plan to put back to original.
From the pics enclosed, you can see that som"mods" had been made. I intend to put back to original so would like recommendations on who could do this as I intend to strip and totally re-build but know that I will need specialist help.
Does anyone have details of how the rear pegs attatched as it would seem them had just been sawn off and the rear shock fixing has been moved.

I'm sure this will just be the start and really looking forward to working on this. I've just finished a 350GTV parrallel twin which is now fully restored and on the road.

Yup. That fits with what Ian Falloon tells us.

Yup. The tank and the open rear frame tell the story.

For 1957, they definitely came with black frame, fenders and side panels; and a (not very attractive IMO) red and black tank (see next post). By 1958, they came with red frame, fenders and side panels; and a (much more attractive ) red tank with a white swish.



But pretty much anything will be better than the current 'realisation' .
(Please note: according to the factory workshop manual, the frame is "Very smart appearance"!)

Yeah, something a bit strange has been going on there. As well as the re-positioned top shock mount, I don't see that gusseting on photos of other bikes.

How the rear pegs are mounted is pretty generic to many Ducatis of the time. Have a search on Tinternet. But here's a quick scan of a piccie from the workshop manual to give you the general idea.

This photo shows yellow pin striping around the black. This is correct according to Mick Walker.



There was also this in 1959. Not nice.

Additional picture of the other side of the bike would help.

Really appreciate the info and it is most helpful.
I have enclosed a couple of pics which will show some problem areas.
I've just got the works manual from Laceys, but do we know of a parts manual? There are some parts in the engine but from a different engine.
Also, so can see the handlebar arrangement seems odd, as does the silencer which is clearly a mod.

I'm sure also that the pics of the webbing near the rear peg position are not original.

Will attach some photos. I think the webbing you're referring to is the flat plate gusset, and it's correct. There are a few variations on these 1957 and early 1958 frames- at least 3 different versions of the hanger you're wondering about- a curved tube welded to the frame with the gusset, the curved tube without a gusset, and the later style of 'U' shaped hoop. I can get you some measurements to replace the 20mm stub at the end of the tube.

Fixing the hanger will be child's play compared to the mess at the upper shock mount.
I have a drawing of the rear frame loop somewhere- can send it if you don't have one.

To follow up-
The top triple clamp without the provision to attach a handlebar is usually seen on the Sport- the spacers you have under the triple clamp are filling the gap where the clipon handlebars would have been mounted. You have a really good saddle, and most of the hard to find parts are there- parts for the 175s are hard to find.
